Eltha Booth, a Beaufort County Board of Education, member with the Beaufort County Schools, is a new member of the North Carolina School Boards Association Board of Directors.
Booth applied for the position, and NCSBA elected six new members to the governing Board of Directors during its 43rd-annual conference for board member development. New officers were also chosen.
“I’m excited. I wanted to be a part of the state board of directors because I wanted more insight on this state board. I actually want to learn what it’s all about,” Booth said.
Her new position requires attending meetings every three months and whenever special sessions are called. The appointment is for a two-year term.
Booth also is a member of the Federal Resource Network.
“That’s where you meet with the legislators on the Hill (Washington, D.C.) to share local concerns of the school boards,” Booth said. “Once we get there, we compile a list and the director picks ones he would like to share.”
Before she makes the annual trip to Washington, D.C., in January, Booth will record any suggestions or concerns fellow board members have.
