Mr. Jon Sutton Schumaker, 74, a resident of the Cypress Landing Community of Chocowinity, NC, died Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice of Greenville, NC

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2425 Market Street Extension, officiated by Rev. Jay Martin. A celebration of Jon’s life will follow at the Cypress Landing Bay Club in the Cypress Landing Community.

John was born in Buffalo, New York. He was the son of the late Norbert Schumaker and Leona Sutton Schumaker. He grew up living in the Village of Maplewood, New Jersey, where he graduated from Columbia High School in 1956. Mr. Schumaker then attended Case University in Cleveland, which is now Case Western Reserve. He furthered his education at York College of Pennsylvania. Mr. Schumaker began his career in the Railroad supply industry working for The Rails Company in Maplewood, New Jersey. He then moved to Pittsburgh where he was Vice President for Unit Rail Anchor-Hubbard Tool. In 1975, he and Jerry Hines, Sr. helped to establish Pandrol USA. Mr. Schumaker became President after Jerry’s retirement. Mr. Schumaker retired in 2001.

Mr. Schumaker is survived by his wife of 45 years, Connie Schumaker; a daughter, Alexis Gurnard and husband Jim of Clovis, Calif.; two sons, John Schumaker of Hagerstown, MD and Dan Schumaker and wife Adelle of McKinney, Texas. He is the loving grandfather of Jade Edwards and husband James and Jenna Gurnard also of Clovis, Calif., Kevin Schumaker, Jack Schumaker and Jake Schumaker all of McKinney, Texas.

Jon loved people, cars, clocks, astronomy, a cheerful game of golf, traveling, reading and riding his bike. He will be remembered for his quick wit and unsurpassed sense of humor.
