Mr. Nathaniel Holley Sr. peacefully slipped away on Sunday morning March 3, 2013, at his home. Nathaniel (Nat), the son of the late John and Roberta Keyes Holley, was born December 8, 1927, in Washington, NC. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon Friday, March 8, 2013, at Metropolitan AME Zion Church, 102 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Washington, officiating & Eulogist Reverend Josie F. Clark. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
He spent his early years in the Washington public school system, after which he went to work at an early age. On August 28, 1950, Nathaniel was united in Holy Matrimony to Gladys Hardy. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary August 28, 2012. He was employed with Cargill, Inc. for over 40 years.
He was a faithful, active, lifelong member of Mount Olive A.M.E. Zion church. He dedicated his life to the service of the Lord by serving as Preacher Steward, a Class Leader, former member of the Senior Choir and a member of the All-Male Chorus.
He is survived by his wife Gladys, one daughter Betty H. Faust (William) of  Washington, Nathaniel Holley Jr. (Jackie) of Allentown, PA, Ralph Holley (Melonee) and Steven Holley of Detroit, MI. Three brothers John Holley Jr.,  Andrew Holley, and James T. Holley (Paulette ), all of Washington, NC. One sister Evealine H. Moseley (Carlton) of Washington. Ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Lucille, three brothers, George, Jimmy and Oscar Holley, one sister Sally H. Munion.
Nathaniel will always be remembered as a humble, caring, compassionate servant of God whose love and strength affected us all.
Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Thursday,  March 7, 2013, at L.R. Randolph Memorial Chapel and other times the family will receive friends at the home.
