Mrs. Margaret Asby Holland, age 85, a resident of 1287 Magnolia School Road, Washington, died Thursday, May 2, 2013.

Graveside memorial services will be held 3:30 PM Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Sam Grist.

 Mrs. Holland was born in Beaufort County on December 25, 1927. She was the daughter of the late James Dawson Asby, Sr. and Lossie Belle Harris Asby.  Mrs. Holland was a homemaker and had worked in the Finance office at the Mid-East Commission. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. Mrs. Holland loved to read and enjoyed working in her yard as long as her health permitted.  She was an avid Bible Study student. Mrs. Holland was a member of a large, close family and she believed in strong family ties.

Mrs. Hollard was married to William Clarence “Jack” Holland, who preceded her in death, December 2, 1990.

She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Holland Woolard (Mrs. Billy Jay) of Washington; her son, Michael N. Holland of Newport; two grandchildren, Harbor D. Peoples and wife, Cathy of California, Larkin Peoples Shapiro and husband, Randall of Wilmington, N.C.; step great granddaughter, Cooper Haskins of Mississippi; four brothers, Oscar H. “Bucky” Asby and wife, Mildred of Franklin, N.C., Gene L. Asby of Washington, Reginald W. Asby and wife, JoAnn of Washington, James Dawson “Dicky” Asby and wife, Debbie of Richmond, Va.; sister, Helen A. McRoy of Washington; brother in law, Donald Smith of Washington; aunt, Myrtle Whitfield of Williamsburg, Va.; uncle, Casper Harris of New Orleans, La. and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. 

 In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Holland was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Asby Smith and a nephew, Rod Smith.

 The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, Helen A. McRoy, 325 Mansfield Road, Sherwood Forest, Washington and following the service at the graveside.
