Mrs. Shirley Jean Wells Smith, age 69, a resident of Lover’s Ln., Washington, NC, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013 at River Trace Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. A graveside celebration of her life will be held Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington, NC officiated by Pastor Kent Gurganus. The family will receive friends

Thursday, May 23, 2013 one hour prior to the service at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Hwy. 264 E., Washington, NC and proceed to the cemetery in procession. The family will also receive friends at the home of her daughter Wendy Martin, 294 Warren Place (Camp Leach Rd.), Washington, NC.

Shirley was born in Plymouth, NC on November 6, 1943 daughter of the late Joe and Daisy Warren Wells. She was also the stepdaughter of the late John Stanton Sadler. She was married to the late Larry Gray Cutler. Shirley was a seamstress for Sampson Manufacturing. She had also worked at the Washington Daily News and had worked as a meat cutter. Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church but had attended Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ. She loved cooking.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Wendy C. Martin and her husband Randy of Washington; her sister, Brenda Cherry and her brother, Johnny Sadler both of Washington; her grandson, Jeremy Reece Martin of Washington; and her nieces, Tiffany Sopher, Nikki Forbes and Heather Wells all of Washington.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Danny L. Wells and Shelton Wells and her granddaughter, Jessie Nicole Martin.

Flowers are welcome of the family suggests memorials be made to the American Stroke Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.
