Thurman Benjamin Reynolds

Thurman Benjamin Reynolds, 87, of Fuquay-Varina and formerly of Columbia died Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Wake Med in Cary.

Born August 1, 1925 in Tyrrell County he was the son of the late Fred Douglas Reynolds and Daisy Brickhouse Reynolds and was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline C. Reynolds; sister, Eddie Mae Swain; brothers, Roy Reynolds and Douglas Reynolds.  Mr. Reynolds retired as a Command Sergeant Major with the U.S. Army Special Forces.  He served in World War II with the 194th Glider Regiment during the D-Day Invasion.  He later served during the Korean Conflict.  Mr. Reynolds received the Purple Heart along with many other awards and decorations for combat. After his retirement he worked at Weyerhaeuser Corporation, was a gentlemen farmer and later owned Reynolds Realty of Edenton.

His family includes his daughters, Jacqueline Elaine Quinn and husband Michael of Raleigh, N.C. and Julie Ann James and husband Tim of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; sister, Kay R. Weddell of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Charles P. Phelps and wife Katie, Benjamin L. Phelps, Michael T. James; great grandson, Charlie Phelps; brother-in-law, John H. Hufton; special friend, Norma Davenport Stillman and many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 11:00 am at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell with Thomas Biggs officiating.  Burial will follow in Azalea Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Family will receive friends on Friday, May 24, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
