Mrs. Mary Alice Beard Hodges, age 73, a resident of Vanceboro, NC died Monday, May 27, 2013 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington, NC.
A funeral service will be held 12 Noon Wednesday May 29, 2013 at 15th Street Church of God officiated by Pastor Thomas Lee.  Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.  Merritt West, Jay West, Joseph Edwards, Sr., Joseph Edwards, Jr., Stanley Edwards and Michael Edwards will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to the funeral hour Wednesday at the church.
Mrs. Hodges was born in Beaufort County on January 18, 1940 daughter of the late Jeff Beard and the late Ruby Sadler Beard.  She dedicated her life to her family by being a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters: Elaine Hartley; and husband Steve of Vanceboro and Debbie Conner and husband Gene of Washington; two sons: Joe Hodges and wife Mary Ann of Washington and Ricky Austin of Pittsburgh, PA; a sister: Ruby E. Beard of Washington; ten grandchildren: Krystal Conner, Kaitlyn Conner, Aleina Hartley, Frank Hartley, Shastyn Hartley, Jordan Hartley, Joey Hodges, Michael Hodges, Rusty Tolan and Justin Willoughby; seven great grandchildren: Melanie and Matthew Winstead, Stephen Hartley, Destanyia and Joseph Downing, Jasamine Smith and Denise Tolan; a niece: Sherry Langley and two great nephews: Chad Langley and James Bennett.  Mrs. Hodges was predeceased by a grandchild: Mary C. Hartley and a brother: Robert Earl Howard.

Roger Edsel Hopkins, Sr., 85, of Plymouth died Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Heartfield Assisted Living in Cary.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 27, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth with Jay Hardison officiating. Burial will follow in Windley Cemetery. Family received friends on Monday at the funeral home following the service.
