Another set of tractor weights gone missing turned up at a Beaufort County recycling center recently as the thief attempted to sell them as scrap metal, according to a press release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
A phone call reporting possible stolen property being sold for scrap metal came in on April 23, but it was later, when Investigator Jim Adams tracked down the weights to a farm in Martin County, and a suspect was identified.
Shawn Michael Patterson, 25, of Jones Road in Williamston was charged with obtaining property by false pretenses and felony possession of stolen property. Patterson was served the warrants in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail because he’d been arrested by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and charged with felony larceny on May 8. Patterson was held on an additional $5,000 secured bond for the Beaufort County charges.
