John Reginald Griffin, born April 1, 1933, of Roper North Carolina died on May 28, 2013. He was born in the Farm Life community of Martin County and was the last living child of the late William and Gurtha griffin. John was a veteran of the US Army, having served in Korea. He was married to Jean Holloman for over 55 years who survives.  In 1963, they moved from Williamston after purchasing a farm in Roper. John was a building contractor for nearly 30 years and later became a full-time farmer. He is survived by his children and grandchildren, John R. Griffin Jr. and wife Mary Gwen and children Olivia and Caleb of Farm Life, Frances Griffin Howell and husband Glenn and children Forrest, Daniel, and Cameron of Pinetown, Steven Tayloe Jones and wife Jenny of Plymouth. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Archie, George, William, and Verlin.  His five sisters also preceded him: Carrie Dell, Thelma, Marie, Daisy and Shirley.

The funeral service will be held Sunday at 3:00 PM at the Roper Baptist Church. A graveside service will be at 4:30 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery following the funeral service. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8:00 PM at the church and other times at the residence 618 Cross Road Roper NC.
