Nina S. Walker

Mrs. Nina Lee Silverthorne Walker, age 88, a former resident of Blounts Creek died Sunday June 2, 2013 at Vintage Inn Nursing Center of Williamston.

 

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday June 6, 2013 at Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church of Blounts Creek officiated by Rev. Chuck Owens and Ward Sullivan. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.  Robert Bruce, Christopher Bruce, Danny Asby, Thomas Walker, Floyd Gurganus and Billy Gurganus will serve as pallbearers.

 

The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 p.m. to the funeral hour at Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church.

 

 Mrs. Walker was born in Beaufort County on September 6, 1924 daughter of the late J. Silverthorne and the late Abera Meekins Silverthorne. She attended Bath Schools and married Ray Oliver Walker on October 17, 1943 who preceded her in death on April 27, 2008. Mrs. Walker was a homemaker and a member of Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church of Blounts Creek. She had attended Sweet Home Church of Christ of Williamston.

 

Survivors include a daughter: Peggy Bruce and husband Robert of Longwood, FL; a son: Larry Walker and wife Carolyn of Washington; three grandchildren: Christopher Bruce, Nicole Bruce Cone and Thomas Walker; two great grandchildren: Kali and Chelsea Whitaker and a very special loving niece: Penny Silverthorne Swain of Robersonville whom the family is very grateful for the love and care she showed Mrs. Walker. She was predeceased by a brother: Wilson Odell Silverthorne and a sister Velma D. Milledge.

 

In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks for memorials to be made to Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church, P.O. Box 77, Blounts Creek, NC 27814.
