Rain, wind over: Summer Festival on tap

As Tropical Storm Andrea takes off up the  East Coast, Washington’s biggest outdoor event of the year, the Washington Summer Festival, is back on schedule.

Amusements, rides and bands will go on as scheduled today with one exception in that Craig Woolard (without his band) will play tonight from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Festival Park.

Some vendors and rides set up on Friday, but the bulk will be setting up this morning as the festival goes into full swing.

Schedule for the Summer Festival is as follows:

Saturday, June 8

10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Food, arts & crafts, carnival rides and games on Stewart Parkway; Potashcorp-sponsored Fossil Dig behind the dockmaster’s office on Stewart Parkway

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lowe’s Kids’ Wooden Building Projects, located in front of the Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce building on Stewart Parkway

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Little Washington Sailing Club boat rides. Ages 10 to 18. Launch in front of the Pirate Park, the playground in Festival Park

11 a.m. Protown BMX show across Water Street from Festival Park

1:30 p.m. Protown BMX show across Water Street from Festival Park

3:30 p.m. Protown BMX show across Water Street from Festival Park

4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Steady Eddies: rock ’n roll at its finest at Festival Park. Sponsored by PotashCorp

6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Craig Woolard

7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sol Junky: alternative, Indie rock onstage at Festival Park. Sponsored by PotashCorp

 

Sunday, June 9

5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. North Carolina Symphony “Meet the Conductor” reception at the North Carolina Estuarium. Tickets $40, for ticket information, call 252-946-9168.

6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. New/used instrument drop off for Beaufort County Schools (donate new or gently-used instruments to be used by local school children)

6 p.m. Instrument Zoo. Kids can get some hands-on experience with many musical instruements at this North Carolina Symphony-led event in Festival Park.

7:30 p.m. FREE. North Carolina Symphony at Festival Park
