The Down East Seniors Club held their June 12 meeting at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. After an invocation by Durwood Cratch, Vice President John Tunstall presided and presented humor for the day. He also gave the health report in which he stated that Mike Gwynn was recovering from heart surgery.
Program Director Ed Hamrick introduced our own Dr. Cam Padgett as the guest speaker. Dr. Padgett chairs the Senior Health Committee of the Beaufort County Committee of 100. He stated that Beaufort County, like many other eastern North Carolina counties, does not have an adequate facility for assisted living. Before an assisted living facility can be built in North Carolina, the state must issue a Certificate of Need and the county commissioners must give their approval. Assisted living is the only non-medical activity that requires a CON in North Carolina. His committee is trying to aid interested entities to get these approvals so they can build an assisted living facility in Beaufort County.
Rudy Burns won the 50/50 drawing.
