Timothy Brinkman will be making a stop in Washington on July 7.
The Christian Men’s Fellowship of First Christian Church (Disciplesof Christ) invited the performer for an evening of food, worship and music, said Sam Fulmer, one of the organizers of the event.
Brinkman blends folk, soul, country and modern rock to deliver his own message.
But he doesn’t stop there.
“He’s a dynamic speaker. He’s a televangelist and he plays seven instruments,” Fulmer said. “He has a Christian message. He has a message of hope.”
The free concert starts at 6:30 p.m. with an opening act, the church’s Living Water Band.
“That’s a treat in itself,” Fulmer said. “They are going to do the setup from 6:30 to 7. They’ll play half a dozen songs or more, upbeat, contemporary music. It just blesses everybody.”
The concert is an effort to grow the church by attracting new faces and raising funds for youth activities.
The fundraising portion of the evening starts at 5 p.m. with a ham supper. The $7(per person) meal includes dessert.
“You don’t have to come to the supper to go to the free concert,” Fulmer said. “We’d like you to go, but you don’t have to.”
Fulmer said he hoped Brinkman’s performance would “catch some eyes.”
“You know, there’s so many people who seem to think that church is mundane,” he said. “But, he (Brinkman) has a message that will touch the hearts of the younger generation.”
