Two arrested in Lowes parking lot

On July 11, 2013, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested William Logan Whichard, 20, of 3028 Whichards Beach Rd. in Chocowinity, and Danielle Alex Baker, 20, of 1977 N.C. Highway 102 in Chocowinity.

Their arrests stemmed from Investigators conducting a controlled purchase of Oxycodone, a schedule II controlled substance, from the two earlier this month. Investigators witnessed Baker and Whichard parked in the Lowes parking lot in Washington in the same vehicle used in the controlled purchase. Investigators had the vehicle under surveillance when they witnessed Whichard and Baker preparing to use a controlled substance. They also observed a small child in the backseat of the vehicle.

Investigators approached the vehicle and saw pills in the laps of both Baker and Whichard. Both were taken into custody and a thorough search of the vehicle was conducted. As a result of the search, 66 dosage units of Oxycodone, marijuana and syringes were seized. The syringes were located in the backseat of the vehicle next to the child’s car seat. The Department of Social Services has been notified of the investigation and the child was placed in the custody of a family member.

Whichard was arrested and charged with trafficking in opiates by possession, trafficking in opiates by transportation, conspiracy to traffic in opiates and conspiracy to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance. Danielle Baker was arrested and charged with trafficking in opiates by possession, trafficking in opiates by transportation, conspiracy to traffic in opiates, possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance and conspiracy to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance. Baker was also charged with a probation violation by the Department of Community of Corrections as she was in violation of her probation status. Whichard was confined under a $27,500 secured bond and Baker was confined under a $40,000 secured bond.
