Creswell is preparing for the start of the new school year with several events beginning in
August.
Jean Olecki, Administrative Assistant, at Creswell High School explained that a planned
Back to School Rally is usually well attended.
“It tends to have about 150 to 200 attendees. This will be the third year we’ve done it.
Parents and students alike come up to meet the new faculty, hear about what’s new for the
school year, pick up school supply lists and their schedules. They also get to see small
presentations or displays from the various clubs at school looking for new members,” she
said.
The rally planned for Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Creswell High School Gymnasium will
include presentations by the Athletics Department, JROTC program, and the FFA Chapter.
Smaller numbers attend the Open house scheduled on Aug. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“It is more like a second chance to pick up schedules and meet teachers, for those who
were out of town or unable to make the rally. Also, new students and transfers get the
chance to tour the school, learn where their rooms are located, and meet the staff,’” said
Olecki
The 7th grade orientation is scheduled on Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Gymnasium.
The entire usually all make it.
“The kids receive a tour of the school, learn how to open their lockers, hear what a typical
day for them will be. Meet all their teachers and classmates. It’s a great opportunity for
those kids making the jump from the elementary school to the high school,” said Olecki
9th grade orientation has smaller attendance because the kids have already been in the
school for two years, but it does serve a purpose.
“Students learn about making that transition from middle school to high school, what the
expectations are, what the block schedule day is like, what their graduation requirements
are. And they meet teachers they didn’t necessarily have as middle school students,” said
Olecki
Olecki noted all of the events are geared at engaging the Creswell area community, getting
parents and guardians involved in the school and their children’s education, and generally
bringing together the staff and students and parents to work together for a successful school
year.
