Edwin “Ed” Henry Karnowski, 89 died Friday, August 2, 2013 in Martin General Hospital.  Mr. Karnowski was the son of the late Frank and Emma Holcher Karnowski.  Ed had been in declining health for 12 plus years; he attended First Baptist Church as long as his health permitted.
Mr. Karnowski was a graduate of Robstown High School in Texas and continued he’s education at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX.  He served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps where he served in the South Pacific during World War II.  He worked in Soil Conservation for 35 years.
Surviving include his wife Doris B. Karnowski of the home; his son Earl David Karnowski and his wife Barbara, of Winterville, NC; two daughters:  Ellen K McMutcheon and her husband John of TN, and Ann K. Kopacz of CA; 2 grand children and 3 great grandchildren; 2 step sons; 1 step daughter; 5 step grandchildren; 11 step great grand children; his brother Florence Karnowski and his wife Chris of TN; his sisters Madeline Wessels and her husband George, Mildred Hanel and her husband Clarence, Josie Zvonex and her husband Leo, and Ann Heinrich, all of Texas.
Other than his parents, he is also preceded in death by his first wife Inez R. Karnowski, his brother Albert Karnowski, his sister Regina K. Gross and his son in law Tony Kopacz.
Mr. Karnowski was a former member of the Optimist Club, American Legion #39, VFW Post 6088, Disabled American Veterans #48, Narfe and 40 & 8.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 4th, 2013 in First Baptist Church in Washington with the Reverend Robert J. Paciocco officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.  Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 in New Bern National Cemetery.  Friends may send online condolences by visiting www.jimmysawyerfdl.com.  Memorials may be made to Betsey Bailey Nelson Animal Shelter, 3931 Hwy 264 East, Washington, NC or to the First Baptist Church, 113 N.
