Ella Mae Barber Modlin

Mrs. Ella Mae Barber Modlin, 91, of 1014 Barber Cutoff Road, Jamesville, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at Ridgewood Manor.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at Jamesville Cemetery with the Revs. Paul Weaver and Adron Modlin and pastor Mike Llewellyn officiating. The family will receive visitors from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Biggs Funeral Home, Williamston, and other times at the home.

Mrs. Modlin was retired, having worked as a cook for Community Action Headstart. She was born in Martin County on Dec. 9, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Warren Staton Barber and Martha Lilley Barber. In 1942, she married Arnold Modlin, who died in July 1969. She was a member of Cedar Branch Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Phillip Modlin and his wife, Kassie, of Jamesville; a sister, Lydia Matthews and her husband, Clifton, of Williamston; grandchildren, Jed Modlin and his wife, Jennifer, of Washington, Hannah Buck and her husband, Joshua, of Williamston, Allegra Modlin of Greenville, Rachel Oeters of Greensboro and Rebecca Ayscue of Jamesville; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Modlin, and a daughter, Judy Manseau.
