Walter Flowers

Mr. Walter Flowers was born into this life on Aug. 16, 1924 to the late Romeo and Ethel Flowers. He departed this life on Oct. 7, 2013. He was affiliated with the Metropolitan AME Zion Church of Washington, North Carolina.
He received his formal education in public school system of Washington, North Carolina where he graduated. He promptly enlisted in the United States Army after finishing high school, and served his country well by experiencing two tours of duty during and after the Second World War. After he returned from duty, he was employed by the A & P Super Market, Inc in Washington, North Carolina. Later he relocated to Queens Village, New York where he continued his employment with the food company and retired as a manager of the stocking department.
Walter was married twice. He was preceded in death by Grace Barns and Vinetta Coln. Three years ago Walter relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina to be near his daughter Mary P. Ledbetter and other family. He resided at the Brian Center Assisted Living in Charlotte, North Carolina. Walter was a complete man, serious, humorous, compassionate, loving, and empathetic. Yet you always knew where you stood with him! He was not deceitful! However, sometimes you did have to think about whether he was serious or joking. He was a man for all seasons and reasons. He LOVED his family!
Walter leaves to cherish in memory his children, Annette DeBrecourt-Hauck (John), Joseph Oden (Gloria), Sondra McMillan, Rosalin Flowers, Mary Patrick Ledbetter (George); a host of grand children, great grand children, two nieces, Shirley Allen, Joan Daniel (John); nephews and one sister-in-law, Sarah Flowers and a host of other relatives and friends.
Walter, you were loved in life and are immortalized in our memories until we meet again!!! Lovingly submitted by the family.
Visitation services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013 at Greater Providence Baptist Church, 2000 Milton Road from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Home-going services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Salisbury National Cemetery (Military), Salisbury, N.C.
