William B. Farrow

William Benjamin (Mr. Billy) Farrow, 77, of 31466 U.S Highway 264, Engelhard, died Monday, October 21, 2013, at Cross Creek Health Care Center, Swan Quarter, where he had been a patient recently.

Born in the Last Chance Community of Hyde County, October 10, 1936, he was the son of the late William Harvey and Mary Inez Cuthrell Farrow. He was married to the former Melba Elizabeth Warrick on December 12, 1958.  She preceded him in death.

A graduate of N.C. State University College of Agricultural Engineering, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Crop Science in 1958. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. He opened Farrow’s Red and White Grocery Store in Engelhard in 1960. He was a mason and a member of Atlantic Lodge #294 AF&AM, a lifetime member of Watson’s Chapel United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Directors of the Engelhard Medical Center from it’s inception.

Billy enjoyed being a small business owner in Hyde County and working with his wife and best friend Melba. Billy enjoyed serving the public and  loved being out in the community among Hyde County people. He had a special bond with his grandchildren and always shared an unconditional love with his family.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Watson’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Pastor Jerald Craddock will officiate. Burial will follow in St. George’s Episcopal Church Cemetery at Lake Landing.

Surviving are his daughter, Blair Farrow Beard and husband, Jeff of Jonestown, PA; his three grandsons, William Aaron Beard, Ethan Allen Beard and Ian Job Beard.
