James Simon “J.S.” Rogerson

Mr. J.S. Rogerson, age 80, a resident of 2980 Wharton Station Road, Washington died Sunday afternoon, November 3, 2013 at Vidant Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday November 6, 2013 at the Washington Assembly of God Church in Washington officiated by Pastor Stephen Evans and Pastor Tim Parker. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

Mr. Rogerson was born in Martin County on January 23, 1933 son of the late Simon Rogerson and Leonia Wynne Rogerson. On September 7, 1955, he married the former Opal Lilley who survives. He retired from National Spinning as a supervisor and continued to farm and garden. He was known as the “collard man.” Mr. Rogerson was a member of Washington Assembly of God Church, a member of Wharton Station Ruritan Club, Cow Horn Hunting Club and Horse Pen Hunting Club.

In addition to his wife, Opal of the home he is survived by his children: Marky Rogerson and wife, Essie, Juanita Dunn and husband, Tandy, and Alton Rogerson and wife, Sandee all of Washington; his brother: David Rogerson and wife, Janie of Williamston; his grandchildren: James, Kevin, Ashley, Brinley, Travis, Corey and Kasie and 6 great grandchildren.   In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Naomi Fulford.

The family will receive friends 6:00-7:30 PM on Tuesday at Washington Assembly of God Church and other times at the home.
