The Beaufort County Community Orchestra will be trying out a new venue for its holiday concert this year.
For years, the orchestra has filled the rafters of local churches with the sounds of the season. Violinist Robin Potts said that will not be the case this year.
“There is so many more musicians that we’ve outgrown where we used to play,” she said.
This year’s concert will be in the auditorium of Building 8 at Beaufort County Community College at 3 p.m. Dec. 15. But the orchestra will not be calling BCCC home anytime soon.
“We’ll be playing in the Turnage Theater in the spring,” Potts said.
The orchestra accepts musicians of all calibers. It presents two performances a year. The talent she witnesses at weekly practices constantly impresses Potts.
“We’ve got a wonderful violinist named Wendy. She plays like an angel,” she said. “It is something else to sit beside her. I play better when she sits next to me.”
The friendships she has developed from being a member of the orchestra have been one of the most rewarding parts of practicing and performing with the ensemble, said Potts, adding that she would like to see more people join in on the fun.
“We have a home for them,” she said.
