Margie Respess Swain, age 89, a resident of Swan Point Reef Rd., Washington, NC passed away Thursday, November 28, 2013. There will be a celebration of her life tod at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service officiated by Dr. Leroy Cutler and Rev. Chad Penhorwood. Burial will follow at the Swain Family Plot in Oakdale Cemetery. Her grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Swain was born September 15, 1924 in Beaufort County, daughter of the late Macon Seaton and Beulah Allen Respess. She was a graduate of Pantego High School. Margie was formerly married to D.S. Swain, Jr. She was a lifelong resident of Beaufort County. Margie was a homemaker for most of her life but later became a self-employed real estate agent. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Washington where she was a member of the ladies circle.
She was the past director of the Beaufort County Red Cross, past member of the Eastern Star, Washington Garden Club, and she was also the first person to receive the GRI distinction of realtors in Beaufort County.
She is survived by her children, Duard S. Swain, III, Nima Lea Swain, Galen M. Swain, and Amy Christine Swain of the home; eight grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren; and two special great grandchildren of the home, Jamie Cecilia Scherer and Kelsey Gray Scherer.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Eric Franklin Swain; her brother, Oscar Respess; and her sister, Rosa Cutler.
