Mildred Cain Simmons

Mildred Cain Simmons, age 87, a resident of Washington, NC passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at her home. Ms. Simmons was the widow of Waylon J. (BY) Simmons. Until his death they resided at Norfleet Shores on the Pungo River.
Ms. Simmons was born in Manitowoc, WI in 1926 daughter of the late Pauline and Earl Cain. During WW II, Mildred (Millie to friends and family) became a member of the Rosie the Riveter ranks and was a welder on submarines where she met and married her husband of 66 years. They were the owners of Metal Specialties in Greenville until his retirement in 1985 when they moved to Norfleet Shores.
Ms. Simmons leaves behind one sister, Janet Mayer of Whitelaw, WI; two brothers, Jerry Stueber and Donnie Stueber of Dallas, TX; two daughters, Gail Simmons Schryer of Washington, NC and Nancy Simmons Richey of DeFuniak Springs, FL; five grandchildren, Tari Ader of Spokane, WA, Katherine Genetti of Bear, DE, Christine Johnson of Greenville, NC, Michelle Carter and Brian Richey both of DeFuniak Springs, FL; eight great grandchildren, Alec Flores of CA, Bailey Hayek of Deer Park, WA, James Campbell of Richland, WA, Kayla Harrison of Washington, NC, Bailee Carter of DeFuniak Springs, FL, Kelsey Shield and Troy Polen both of Greenville, NC; and four great great grandchildren, Jacob and Wesley Harrison of Washington, NC and Kayden and Keslyn Collins of Greenville, NC.
