Mrs. Caroline Marie Cayton Poore, age 84, a resident of Washington, NC died Friday, December 27, 2013.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Rev. Chad Penhorwood. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Holmes Lilley, Joshua Powell, Lee Poore, Justin Poore, Patrick Brennan and Edgar Rowe will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Poore was born in Chowan County to the late Alton Cayton and Lizzie Edwards Cayton. Mrs. Poore was a 1948 graduate of Chocowinity High School and a 1951 graduate of Woodard-Hearing Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her R.N. degree. On November 2, 1951, she married Fred H. Poore, who preceded her death on December 15, 1993. Mrs. Poore worked at Beaufort County Hospital and served as the director of the Beaufort County Nursing Home for many years. Mrs. Poore also provided private duty nursing care. Mrs. Poore was a member of First Christian Church, where she had served as president of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was a charter member of the Washington Women’s Club, a member of the Washington Garden Club, a member of Pocohontas’ Choctaw Council # 51.

Mrs. Poore is survived by three daughters, Lisa Powell and husband Ricky of Washington, Rosemarie Smith and husband Warren of Washington, Jennifer Suniga- Koora of Winterville, and a son, F. Hunter Poore, Jr. Chocowinity, a brother, Cleon Cayton of Chocowinity, five sisters, Juanita Saad of Greenville, Phebie Mills, Bunny Rowe, Judy Godley and Gloria Taylor all of Chocowinity, six grandchildren, William Holmes Lilley, III, Joshua David Powell and wife Brandy, Caroline Gray Lilley, Laura Elisabeth Powell, Amber Marie Suniga and Sarah Hunter Poore and a great granddaughter, Amya Isabella Smith. Mrs. Poore was joyfully expecting her second great grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Poore is preceded in death by three brothers, John Cayton, Leo Cayton and Henry Cayton.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of her daughter, Lisa Poore Powell, 126 Wellington Drive, Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, 401 East Second Street, Washington, NC 27889 or the charity of one’s choice.
