Laura Navarro Sueiro, age 92, a resident of River Trace Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of Willow Ct. passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014. There will be a celebration of her life at 1:00 PM today at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, officiated by The Rev. Kevin Johnson. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. John D. Rodman, Charles A. Labassi, George S. Rodman, John C. S. “Jack” Rodman, Frank Morris and Carlos Arballo will serve as pallbearers. John Thompson, Tom Anglim and Brendan Morris will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends following the committal service at Oakdale Cemetery and other times at the home of Janet Sueiro Rodman.

 

Laura was born November 21, 1921 in Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Adolfo and Leonides Pacheco Javariz. She grew up in New York City where she graduated from high school. During WWII until 1950 she was an employee of Macy’s Department Store. In 1950 she married George L. Sueiro who preceded her in death. From 1980 until 2002 Laura and her husband lived in South Florida where she was a active member of St. Richard’s Catholic Church and the Puerto Rican Women’s Club. Laura and George purchased a home in Washington in 2002 and divided their time between Miami and Washington. She enjoyed attending functions at the Senior Center. Family was very important to Laura. She loved cooking for and providing a beautiful and elegant home where her family could gather and create memories.

 

Laura is survived by her daughters, Laura Sueiro Labassi and her partner Mark H. Thorne of Monroe Township, NJ and Janet Sueiro Rodman and husband John of Washington; her grandchildren, Laura Anne Morris and husband Frank, Linda Fernicola and husband Gary, Charles A. Labassi and wife Marie, George S. Rodman, and John C. S. “Jack” Rodman; and her great grandchildren, Gary Fernicola, Brendan Morris and Gabrielle Fernicola.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Laura’s memory be made to St. Peter’s Camp Trinity Scholarship Fund, PO Box 985, Washington, NC 27889.
