The Nets of the boys 13-15 Washington Youth Basketball League defeated the Hornets on Thursday, 45-33.

“I feel great about our performance tonight,” said Head Coach Carlton Barr. “They came to play.”

The boys in black came out of the gate flat in the first quarter offensively, producing multiple traveling violations and turnovers early. Aggressive defense was a common trend on both sides of the floor with six fouls racked up in the first two minutes alone.

The Hornets’ point guards controlled the tempo, setting their own pace and taking on the Nets’ big men down low. They were able to jump out to an 11-6 lead through the first 10 minutes.

However, the Nets controlled the rest of the game from thereon. Standout guard ZyQuise Blount took on the Hornets defense single handedly when needed, hitting mid-range jumpers and acrobatic layups throughout the night.

“ZyQuise is excellent, always,” said Barr. “He always comes to play.”

Blount would end with 14 points, most of which came in the second half. Quashawn Gaynor also finished with 9 points and Raegwan Harris with 8.

For the Hornets, Dresyn Brooks led his team with 11 points.

The Nets face off against the Timberwolves today at 5 p.m., which the Hornets will try to pick up a win against the Mavericks at 4 p.m.
