Led by their dynamic guard play, the Lady Mystics of the 11-14 girls Washington Youth Basketball League knocked off the Lady Cougars on Saturday, 36-21.
“The twins and Trazyra [Windley], all three of them together have that chemistry,” said Head Coach Rodney Rich. “They know what the other is thinking and they play real well together. They know where to trap, where to pass and how to play. They set the tone for the game.”
Cierra and Tierra Wiggins controlled the tempo of the game, dishing when needed and spotting up for jumpers when open. Windley started the first quarter off with a beautiful step back mid-range jumper and patrolled the perimeter throughout the game. She ended with 10 points.
For the Cougars, Aaliyah Williams and Jasmine Myers pulled down crucial offensive rebounds that kept the Cougars in the game in the second half.
However, Windley and the Wiggins twins had the offense working like clockwork and the Cougars were unable to force many turnovers.
“They’re playing really good. We have a few errors on the press,” said Rich. “We didn’t trap like we’re supposed to a couple times, but overall we were strong. They played real good together as a team today.”
The Mystics will have a rematch with the Mercury on Thursday, while the Cougars face off against the same team tonight at 5:30 p.m.
