The Washington wrestling team lost in the final minutes against Farmville Central on Thursday, 39-31.

“Some of the guys showed up, some of them didn’t,” said Head Coach Daniel Riggs. “We lost five of the six matches and five of them were by pins. You can’t do that in order to be good and win.

Despite the loss, Thomas Remick recorded a hard-earned pin in just over three minutes, improving his season record to 29-3, while Devon Van Cura stayed undefeated, pinning Farmville’s Antonio Patrick in 41 seconds.

Jason Gardner was the only other Washington wrestler to pick up a pin, defeating Zachary Sutton in 1:14.

The Pam Pack will have one more meet before the conference individual tournament, matching up against 10-2 North Pitt at Washington High School.

“We’re just taking it one day at a time, and we will be working on the mistakes we saw tonight,” said Riggs. “It’s the same stuff that we’ve been going over. That’s the frustrating thing, but I guess we’ll just get back in that practice room and keep going at it.”

With the loss, Washington drops to 9-6 on the season.
