On Jan. 22, 2014, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arrested Robert Wayne Smith Jr., 23, of 2081 Chandler Road, Chocowinity, and Raul Miguel Renteria, 22, of 2425 Cayton Road, Chocowinity. Their arrests stemmed from investigators conducting surveillance of suspicious activity in the parking lot of Burger King in Chocowinity. Investigators witnessed Smith and Renteria crushing pills inside of Smith’s vehicle. Investigators approached the vehicle and in saw baggies containing prescription pills and white powder in plain view. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 11 dosage units of Oxymorphone (Schedule II Controlled Substance) and a glass marijuana smoking pipe.

Robert Smith was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance, maintain a vehicle to facilitate drug activity and possession of drug paraphernalia. Raul Renteria was charged with possession of schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Smith was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond. Smith was out on bond stemming from prior drug charges at the time of his arrest. Renteria was confined under a $1,000 secured bond.
