OBIT BROTHERS

Mrs. Muriel Owens Brothers, 74, of 1406 Washington Street, Washington, NC., died Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at home.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, February 9,2014, at Trinity Episcopal Church at 182 NC Hwy. 33 W, Chocowinity, NC. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Brothers was born to the late James Alexander & Mable Whitaker Owens in Norfolk, VA. She was a graduate of Norfolk State College. She married Floyd G. Brothers on October 22, 1960.

Mrs. Brothers was employed as a teacher in the Washington City Schools. She was very active in numerous organizations and activities in her community including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, NAACP, Board of Directors of Beaufort County Developmental Center, Beaufort County Hospital Foundation, Education Foundation, Participant for Merger of Washington City and Beaufort
County Schools, Girl Scouts of America, Camp Hardee Site Committee, Executive Board of the Beaufort County Arts Council, Church Women United, Habitat for Humanity, Chair of Brown Library Trustee Board, Washington-All America City Team, CAPRI(Community and Police Resources Initiative),Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina, Commission of Ministry, Board of Episcopal Church Women, the Episcopal Hispanic Ministry, St. Paul Episcopal Church, where she was Vestry Clerk, Lay Leader and Chalice Bearer.

 

Survivors: Her husband, Floyd G. Brothers of the home; children; Kimberly Brothers Hawkins, Orlando, Fla.; Floyd G. Brothers, Jr. (Michaela), Fayetteville, NC; and Karen Clarice Brothers, Philadelphia, PA. One sister, Clarice Owens Adkins(Fred( Virginia Beach, VA. and 1 brother, James Alexander Owens, Jr. (Jacqueline) Clarksville, Tenn.; 3 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, a host of in-laws, other relatives and friends.

Visitations on Saturday 5:00 pm February 8, 2014, Omega, Omega Ceremony, Washington-Plymouth Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. 5:30-6:30 pm private family viewing. 6:30-7:30pm Public viewing other times at the home.
