GREENVILLE, N.C. — The East Carolina women’s swimming and diving team capped off a perfect season with a 129-94 win over Campbell Saturday afternoon at Minges Natatorium. The Pirates finished with an 11-0 record to join the 1941 ECU football team (7-0) as the only active ECU intercollegiate programs to boast an undefeated season.

“We are ecstatic to set university history by going undefeated,” ECU Head Coach Rick Kobe said. “The depth of talent we have is incredible. We have a lot of up front kids, but our second and third swimmers are not that far from those winning the events. To go 11-0 you have to have a lot of good swimmers and they swam great from beginning to end.”

The Pirates won 10 of 11 swimming events, while diving unopposed. ECU swept the top two spots in eight individual races and claimed the first three places in two others. The only event the Pirates didn’t win was the 400 IM which was claimed by Campbell’s Kylie Warne.

The meet began with Anna Gibas, Megan Sellers, Anna Maria Svanbergsson and Anastasia Amoiroglou teaming up to win the 200 medley relay. Tori Angermeier joined Gibas, Svanbergsson and Amoriroglou to touch first in the 400 free relay to close out the meet.

Amoiroglou earned an individual victory by touching 0.10 ahead of Gibas in the 50 free. The 200 fly was also decided by less than a second as Lauren Baker beat Danielle Morrin to the wall by 0.34.

Angermeier and Svanbergsson were individual victors as well. Angermeier finished 0.83 in front of Lauren Chew in the 200 free before Svanbergsson captured first-place in the 100 free.

Delaney Fox won the 1000 free by just under three seconds over Liz Browne. Browne also finished second in the 500 free behind Chew, who won with a time of 4:59.53. Amit Bechar came home third.

Jera Majeric claimed first-place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.72 and Megan Sellers won the 200 breaststroke by more than five seconds with a time of 2:20.36.

Colleen Jones swept the diving events, winning the 1-meter springboard competition with a score of 268.73 and the 3-meter with a tally of 234.53.

The Pirates will return to competition Feb. 26 at the Conference USA Championships in Atlanta.
