Evelyn Butler Morgan

Evelyn Butler Morgan passed away on Friday, February 7 with her family by her side. She was born October 31, 1947, in Hampton, Virginia and lived in Phoebus for more than 40 years. Her courageous battle with leukemia inspired family and close friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her father Thomas C. Butler. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Emory H. Morgan, her daughters, Leigh Anne Morgan Chapman and husband David, Carrie Morgan Baughman and husband Erik, her beloved grandchildren, Addison Baughman, William Chapman, and Sophia Baughman, and her sister Barbara Sinclair Williams and husband Boyd Williams.
Evelyn was a loving wife, mother and sister, and an especially devoted grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining in a classic southern style. Evelyn shared a lifelong love of boating with her entire family and many longtime friends, both in Hampton and in her North Carolina home.
The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, from 6 to 8pm. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Hampton, on Thursday, February 13 at 2pm. A celebration of Evelyn’s life will also be held at the Pamlico Plantation Clubhouse (North Carolina) on February 17 beginning at 3 pm.
