Marie Smith Waters

Mrs. Marie Smith Waters, a former resident of Beaufort County, died Monday, February 10, 2014 in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 3:30 PM in Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:30 to 3:00 PM at Paul Funeral Home. Mrs. Waters died after a brief illness, in Myrtle Beach, SC where she most recently resided near her family.

Born April 30, 1923 in Bertie County, she was the fourth daughter of the late Helen Lassiter Smith and Alvah Cecil Smith and is predeceased by four sisters; Sarah Moore, Foy Westcott, Martha McLawhorn, Alva Smith and an infant brother. She was a graduate of Bertie High School and had been a long-time resident of Washington until recent years when she moved to be near her children, both in Virginia and South Carolina. She was formerly a member of First Church of Christ and had been retired for 26 years from Bank of America (Bank of Washington). She took great pleasure in volunteering at Beaufort County Hospital during the years following her retirement.  She will be remembered as a selfless and devoted mother and grandmother.

Surviving are her three children Vann Waters (Peggy), Mike Waters, and Diane Cox (Joe), 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the donors’ charity of choice.
