Ralph Sherwood Linton, age 67, a resident of the Terra Ceia Community of Pantego, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 at Vidant Pungo Hospital.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, officiated by Billy Ray Askew. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery of Washington. James Thomas Linton, Bradford Linton, Joseph Boyd, John Bryant, Charlie Brooks and Jerry Phelps will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.

Mr. Linton was born in Beaufort County, son of the late Oscar Rudolph Linton and the late Ruth Tetterton Linton. He was a graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk, VA.  Working with the Norfolk Police Department, he advanced to detective before working as a loss prevention consultant for Learner Corp in New York and J.C. Penny in Norfolk. After moving to Beaufort County, he was owner of Linton’s Appliance Parts and Mobile Home Supply in Pantego. His final career was as a rural mail carrier with the Pantego and Washington Post Offices. In August of 1981, he married the former Diane Lynn Warfield who survives.

Surviving along with Ralph’s wife Diane of the home are two daughters: Tiffany Linton Boyd and her husband Joseph of Pantego and Debra Linton Bryant and husband John of Chesapeake, Va.; one sister, Ravanda Fitchett and husband Phillip of Kinston; two brothers, Bradford Linton and wife Linda of Cross Junction, Va., and James Thomas Linton and wife Robin of Virginia Beach, Va.; and six grandchildren, Jacob “Little Bubba” Boyd, Bailee “Shortcake” Linton, Chelsie Marie Boyd, Justin Phillip Bryant, Caitlyn Marie Bryant and Brandon Alexander Bryant.
