John Cotton “JC” Cannon, age 75, a resident of Harbor Dr., Chocowinity, NC, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014 at his home. There will be a graveside celebration of his life with military honors today at 1:30 pm at Oakdale Cemetery, officiated by Dr. Jimmy Moore. Special music will be provided by Eddie Bowen. Gary Best, Terry Alligood, Doug McRoy, Terry Shelton, Greg Rayburn and Mike Williams will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the home following the service.

 

JC was born October 26, 1938 in Beaufort County son of the late William Bryant Cannon and Myrtle Maebelle Lewis Cannon. On January 25, 1957 he married the love of his life, the former Mattie Elizabeth Bright who survives. JC retired from Sunbeam in 1990 following 28 years of service. He later worked with Lance Co. He served his country in the Air Force. JC enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his wife Matt and his grandkids. He loved to build things and he loved carpentry. Last summer he devoted his spare time growing the most beautiful flowers for his Matt. JC attended First Baptist Church, Washington.

 

In addition to his wife, JC is survived by his son, Tony L. Cannon and wife Dee of Chocowinity; his sister-in-law, Shirley Rayburn and husband Max of Washington; his brother Leo Cannon and wife Evelyn of Winterville; his sister-in-law Linda Jones and husband Jesse of Salisbury, NC; and his grandchildren, Hallie Elizabeth Cannon, Wyatt Cannon, Julia Smith, William Colt Cannon and Dawson McKinley Cannon.

 

In addition to his parents JC was preceded in death by his son, John Cotton Cannon, Jr. in 1986;  his brother, William Bryant Cannon in 2012; and his grandson, James Ridge Cannon in 1999.
