John Slugocke
June 10, 1919 – March 22, 2014
John Slugocke, age 94, a resident of John Small Avenue, Washington, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at his home. There will be a graveside celebration of his life with military honors at 11:00 am today in Oakdale Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Father Brendan J. Buckler. The family will receive friends at the home.
Mr. Slugocke was born June 10, 1919, in Newark, N.J., son of the late Michael and Anna Nechipir Slugocke. He was married to Laurel McCloud Slugocke in 1947 who preceded him in death in 1997. Mr. Slugocke was employed in janitorial services for over 40 years, retiring in 1985. He loved to refinish and sell furniture at Poorman’s Flea Market where he was a regular vendor. Mr. Slugocke served his country in the Army.
Mr. Slugocke is survived by his daughters, Ruth Slugocke Radcliff and husband Thomas of Pantego, and Catherine Slugocke Steehler and husband Mallory of Washington; four grandchildren, Kara Pugh, Scot Radcliff, Heather Garcia, and Sabrina Witham; seven great-grandchildren; and twelve nieces and nephews.
In addition his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Slugocke; and his sisters, Josephine Small, Mae Boychuk, and Helen Pringle.
