Mr. Joseph David Alligood, age 71, a resident of Broad Creek Road, Washington, died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, conducted by Tony Krantz.

Mr. Alligood was born in Washington on Aug. 12, 1942. He was the son of Irene Waters Alligood Hawkins and the late Alton Gray Alligood. Mr. Alligood was a retired supervisor with Hackney Industries. In his spare time, he loved hunting, fishing, the outdoors, country music and woodworking. Mr. Alligood enjoyed cooking chicken and barbecuing pigs for fundraisers for the Bunyan Fire Department. He was known for “cooking a good pig.”

Mr. Alligood is survived by his mother, Irene Waters Alligood Hawkins of Washington; three daughters, Carol Saleeby and husband Mike, of Grifton, Sherrie Rogerson and husband Kirk, of Greenville, Cynthia Rodriguez and husband Ed, of Washington; eight grandchildren, Jordan Rogerson, Sean Saleeby, Lauren Rodriguez, Zachary Rogerson, Kyle Saleeby, Blake Rodriguez, Alyssia Rodriguez and Leah Rodriguez; and one brother, Dalton Alligood and wife Barbara, of Washington.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.
