LILLIE R. WOOLARD

January 9, 1922 – April 5, 2014

 

Mrs. Lillie Marie Rogers Woolard, 92, formerly of 615 W. 3rd Street, Washington, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday April 5, 2014 at River Trace Nursing Center.

A graveside funeral service will be held 2 PM Tuesday April 8, 2014 at Oakdale Cemetery.  The service will be officiated by Elbert Lilley and Mike Caton.

The family will receive friends 7 PM to 8:30 PM Monday April 7, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.

Lillie was born in Beaufort County on January 9, 1922 daughter of the late William S. Rogers and the late Rebecca Ausbon Rogers.  On March 6, 1936 she married Jake Woolard, who preceded her in death. A longtime resident of Washington, she was fondly known as the “Mother” of Third Street.  An avid gardener, Lillie enjoyed filling her front porch with hanging baskets.  She was the oldest living member of Tranters Creek Church of Christ, where she was involved with the ladies auxiliary.  The matriarch of the family for many years, Lillie will be missed by her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter: Dorothy “Dot” Buck of Washington; two sons: Melvin Woolard and wife, Opal of Washington and Randy Woolard and wife Libby of Chocowinity; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a sister: Earlene Heath of TN; a brother: Tommy Rogers of IL; a half-sister: Brenda Jefferson of Pinetown and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband Lillie was predeceased by her children: Hazel, Kenneth, Steve and Mike Woolard ; a grandson: Joey Hilton; two brothers: Willie and Dallas Rogers and two half-brothers: Ernest and Bobby Coltrain.
