CAROL WEST | CONTRIBUTED CELEBRATION: Survivors participating in the Beaufort County Relay for Life Survivor Sundae social ranged from 4 to 88 in age. Some have been fighting the battle for only a few months and one has been cancer-free for over 40 years. As the survivors placed their “survivor” birthday candle on a symbolic celebration birthday cake, they stated their name, a word of inspiration they had written on their candles and the number of years they have been cancer free. To register to participate in the Beaufort County Relay for Life event on May 2-3 at Washington High School, visit www.relayforlife.org/beaufortnc. To volunteer to set up or clean up at the event, please contact Dawn Johnson at dawnjohnston27817@gmail.com or 252-943-5061.
