From Arendell Parrott Academy
KINSTON — April 16, ten students, five juniors and five seniors were inducted as members of Arendell Parrott Academy’s Cum Laude Society chapter. The students were selected based on their superior academic records and good character.
The Cum Laude Society, based on Phi Beta Kappa, was founded in 1906 to recognize true scholarship and scholastic achievement among high school students. The Greek words Areté, Diké and Timé — Excellence, Justice and Honor — serve as the Cum Laude motto.
Parrott Academy’s Cum Laude chapter was installed in the Spring of 2013 after a lengthy application and review process. It is one of only eleven chapters in North Carolina. Being granted a Cum Laude Society chapter is a testament to the quality of a school’s curriculum, students and faculty. Arendell Parrott Academy’s faculty, staff and trustees congratulate the new Cum Laude Society members.
Hawes Collier, an inductee for APA’s Class of 2015, is the son of Beth and Chris Collier of Washington.
