Over the next five months, the Daily News sports section will be getting some sun. Sports editor David Cucchiara will be hitting the trails, creeks and woods to take part in a variety of outdoor activities that have come to define Washington and the surrounding area, beginning with an arduous but picturesque hike through Goose Creek State Park in tomorrow’s edition.

The colorful series, entitled Alfresco, a tribute to Cucchiara’s Italian roots, will consist of five-parts: a trek along the moss-lined trails of Goose Creek State Park, a grueling and muddy 5K obstacle course, a voyage through Lower Tranters Creek on a paddle boat, a fishing venture in beautiful Blounts Creek and a skirmish on the frontline of Hematoma Paintball Field.

Each article will be a first-hand account of Cucchiara’s experiences, bringing to life some of the area’s most popular outdoor activities and attractions.
