HYDE COUNTY DEMOCRATS CONVENE

Hyde County Democratic Convention was held Monday, April 14 at the Hyde County Courthouse in Swan Quarter.

Executive Committee Chairperson Marianna Russ called the convention to order and thanked everyone for being active in our party. Mr. Michael Adams offered invocation, thanking God for our freedom, democracy and hope to do what is pleasing in the Lord’s sight. Mr. Willie Gray Shaw led the group with the Pledge of Allegiance. Ms. Marianna Russ brought a message from state chairman Randy Voller. Letters from U.S. Senator Kay Hagan and N.C. House District 6 Representative Paul Tine were presented by Mrs. Janet Russ. Secretary Averi Simmons verified quorum, treasurer Lora Byrd gave report.

Former N.C. Senator Stan White (D) Dare addressed the delegation with goals and objectives for the 1st District and the great state of North Carolina.

The 3rd Congressional District Convention will be held at Cape Fear Community College—McLeod Building, Wilmington, May 17 at 1 p.m. Marianna Russ and Janet Russ were elected as delegates.

Elected to the prosecutorial (judicial) 2nd District Committee were Mr. Charles Sears and Mr. Michael Adams. State Senatorial 1st District Committee Ms. Meredith Nicholson and Mr. Wallace Gibbs. N.C. House District 6 Executive Committee Mrs. Lora Mooney-Byrd and Mr. Willie Gray Shaw.

Hyde County voted in favor of resolution in support of reasonable campaign finance regulation of state and local party committee.

A candidates night was held on April 17 at 7 p.m. at Mattamuskeet High School. Early voting begins 4-24, primary May 6, State Convention-Jefferson-Jackson dinner on June 7 in Raleigh.

With no further business, Chair Russ adjourned the convention challenging democrats to get the vote out and reclaim N.C.
