Sara L. Windley

Sept. 4, 1981 – May 31, 2014

Sara Louise Windley, age 32, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014 in Penn Yan, New York.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6, at Bath Christian Church, with visitation prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. at the church and at other times at the home of her parents, 202 Carteret Street, Bath.  There will be a private graveside service at a later date.

Born on September 4, 1981, in Craven County, NC, Sara was the daughter of John W. and Gloria W. Windley.  Graduating from Northside High School in 1999, Sara was a member the Beta Club, the Quiz Bowl Team and the Library Club. She attended East Carolina University and St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY. She was a member of Bath Christian Church where she sang so beautifully in choir, participated in youth groups, and dearly loved attending church camp.   Sara was a loving, kind and good person. She loved her family and friends, music and singing, being with people – especially children, reading, and the peace of quiet times.  She had a giving heart, crocheting hats for cancer patients and blankets for babies and feeding stray cats by the dozens. She knew no strangers, never deliberately hurt anyone, and left us far too soon. Think of her when you hear “Here Am I, Lord” and “Wind Beneath My Wings”.

Surviving along with her parents are: her brother John L. Windley and wife Yajara of Kill Devil Hills, NC, sister Mary Katherine “Kate” Windley and husband Wilco A. Garay of Athens, GA, nephews Oscar Thomas Windley and Leo Prado Windley, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Her grandparents, all of whom are deceased, were John A. Winfield and Mary Jones Winfield Howard of Pinetown and Joseph A. and Louise L. Windley of Pantego.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Bath Christian Church, 107 S. Harding Street, Bath, NC 27808.
