Margaret Alease Harding Lawrence departed this life 12:00 am, Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. North Carolina. She was born the fifth child to the Late John and Fannie Holley Harding on October 26, 1929.
Margaret was educated in the local schools of Washington, and graduated from the Washington Colored School in 1948. She was later employed by the Washington City School System as a Teacher Assistant, where she retired from that occupation in 1992, after 30 years of service.
On February 24, 1950 she was married to Arthur Jackson Lawrence. From this union, five children were born; Paul Lawrence of Washington, NC, and Nick (of Chocowinity, NC; daughters: Jackie (Irvin Sr.) of Washington, NC, Fannie (Serinus Sr.) of Blounts Creek, NC, and Margaretta (Miles) of Jamesville, NC; eleven Grandchildren; nineteen Great-grandchildren, three sisters: Alice Williams (Alfred), Jessie Burks (Martin Sr.), and Janice Gibbs (Johnny Sr.); and five brothers: Vance (Jessie), Clarence Sr (Renner)., Archie (Alice), Donald (Sandra), and Fenner Sr. (Patricia); one godson—Andre’ Williams; one aunt, three uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Margaret became a member of Mt. Olive A.M.E. Zion Church at an early age, and served diligently and faithfully in any capacity where her services were needed. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura Harding and Thelma H. Frazier, and one brother, John J. Harding.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Saturday,July 19,2014 at Metropolitan AME Zion Chuch.Burial will following at Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Friday,July 18, 2014 from 2:00 -7:00 pm and other times at the home. Arrangements by Leon Randolph Funeral Home, 208 W. MLK,Jr. Drive
