MEETING IN DC: After a 273-mile trek to the nation’s capital, Belhaven Mayor Adam O’Neal met with U.S. Senator Kay Hagan to discuss the July 1 closing of Vidant Pungo Hospital and the need to expand access to healthcare for rural North Carolinians. “Mayor O’Neal and I had a frank conversation regarding the unfortunate closure of Vidant Pungo Hospital. Mayor O’Neal, like many small-town mayors across North Carolina, continues to face great challenges in ensuring the citizens of his rural town have access to emergency healthcare services,” Hagan said.
