MIKE MCCLURE | CONTRIBUTED TASTE TEST: Mike and Elaine McClure, one of four invited Chef Teams, won a first-place award with their "Little Washington Crab Cake Recipe" at the North Carolina Maritime Museum's Eighth Annual Crab Cake Cook-Off competition in Beaufort on July 18. The crab cake Chef Teams served 120 voting "tasters" a total of 420 fresh grilled crab cakes in 60 minutes. The McClures, shown holding the NCMM's events symbolic Blue Crab, live in Smallwood, where family, friends and neighbors enjoyed their more than three months of "practicing" for the competitive culinary event.
