Mable S. Newman

Ms. Mable Winfield Sayers, age 91, a resident of 1664 Haw Branch Rd., Chocowinity, died Saturday, August 16, 2014 at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Lacy Norman Downs Cemetery, 1683 Haw Branch Rd, Chocowinity, NC, and will be conducted by Jason Kirkman. Friends are welcome.

Ms. Newman was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 22, 1923 to the late William and Mable Elizabeth Winfield Sayers. She was a graduate of Kingston High School in Kingston, New York and was a telephone operator with Verizon in Providence, Rhode Island where she retired in 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Phillip H. Newman and wife Sandy of Cumberland, Rhode Island, Robert W. Newman and wife Nelda of Chocowinity, two brothers, Dr. James “Jimmy” Sayers of Asheville, North Carolina, William “Billy” Sayers and wife Linda of Millport, New York, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Marian King.

The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery and other times at the home of her son Bob and Nelda Newman, 1683 Haw Branch Rd., Chocowinity.
