BELINDA “JOEY” SMITH
April 1, 1960 – Aug. 18, 2014
Mrs. Belinda Jo “Joey” Squires Smith, age 54, a resident of Washington, NC received her heavenly reward on Monday August 18, 2014 after a hard fought battle with cancer. She has been an inspiration to all who knew her as she always put others first even in the toughest of times.
We take comfort in knowing she is with Jesus and is receiving all the blessings of a perfect body free from pain or disease. A celebration of life will be held 2:00 PM Thursday August 21, 2014 at First Church of Christ Family Life Center officiated by Steve Hill and Ray West. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joey’s nephews: Jason, Zack, Elliott and Garrett Squires and Hunter and Tanner Boyd.
The family will receive friends 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM Wednesday August 20, 2014 at the Family Life Center of First Church of Christ of Washington and other times at the home.
Joey was born in Fort Lee, Petersburg, VA on April 1, 1960 daughter of the late Frank Roger Squires, Sr. and the late Maggie Elliott Squires. She was a 1978 graduate of Chocowinity High School and continued her education at Beaufort County Community College where she earned her Associate Degree in Cosmetology. On December 14, 1985 she married the love of her life Mark Dean Smith who survives. Joey was a talented hairdresser and worked as long as her health permitted. She was a member of First Church of Christ where she enjoyed teaching the three year old class. Joey’s greatest joy in life was her family.
Surviving along with her husband Mark of the home are her two treasured children: Dean Smith, Jr. and Lanie J. Smith both of Washington; two brothers: M/Sgt. Frank R. Squires, Jr. U.S Air Force Ret. and his wife M/Sgt. Linda U.S. Air Force Ret.; John E. Squires and his wife Dawn of Middlesex; a sister: Marsha Boyd and her husband Billy of Blounts Creek; fourteen nieces and nephews and six great nieces and nephews.
