Mr. Carl Walter “Dip” McCray, 47, of 1071 West Millpond Rd., Roper, died Sept. 30, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at Bethel C/hurch of Christ (Disciples of Christ) with Bishop Samuel Smith, pastor, Elder Jeffrey Hines, officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Church Cemetery.
Carl was born Sept. 10, 1967. He was the son of Shirley Jones McCray and the late Carlton Ray McCray. He was a member of Bethel Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Veteran of the United States Army where he received the Army Service Ribbon, Army Lapel Button, Good Conduct Medal, Driver’s Badge and Army Achievement Medal, Water Plant Operator for Washington County Water Department where he was licensed in B-Well, B-Distribution, Grade 1 Physical/Chemical Water Pollution Control System Operator, Asst. Basketball Coach for Washington County Union Little League (2003-’06), Asst. Football Coach for Washington County Recreation (2004-’06), Asst. Basketball/Football Coach for Washington County Union (2007-’08) and Asst. Basketball Coach for Plymouth High School (2009).
Survivors include wife, Mary White McCray of the home; sons-James Louis White of Rocky Mount, Carl Jeremy McCray-student at Fayetteville State University; mother-Shirley McCray of Roper; sisters-Shawn McCray of Roper, Sherrie Robinson of Charlotte; one grandchild and maternal grandmother Ella Smack of Bridgeville, Del.
The family will be receiving friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Bethel Church of Christ and other times at the home.
