The Northside cross-country team had a lot to be proud of this week after bringing home 13 personal best times of the season. What made it extra special is when the girls claimed the runner-up conference title. Northside also had three runners take home All-Conference honors and one earn the distinguished Male Runner-of-the-Year honor.
Senior Savannah Bunn took the top honors for the Lady Panthers with a third-place finish overall and a new personal best time of 22 minutes and 30 seconds. Teammate Shana Taylor (10th grade) stepped up the pace with a time of 23 minutes and 16 seconds, allowing her to claim the fifth place All-Conference title out of seven available. The remainder of the Lady Panthers finished in the following order: Jethzabel Alonso 10th (25:18), Caitlin Johnson 14th (26:35), Sierra Corley 18th (27:11) and Allison Waters 20th (27:40).
Sophomore Holden Newman took home first place overall, with a time of 17 minutes and 16 seconds. Holden crossed the finish line 24 seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Repeating his title from last year as the Male Runner-of-the-Year and the number one All-Conference winner brought a smile of success. The remainder of his Panther teammates finished in the following order: Nathaniel Bowen 16th (20:32), Braeden Cooper 21st (20:55), Elijah Bowen 22nd (21:01), Brady Hudnell 26st (21:41), Carlton Peele 28th (21:47), Reg Bishop 30th (21:57) and Hayden Tankard 33rd (22:21).
Northside boys and girls will compete at the 1-A regional championship on Oct. 25 at Manteo High School. The men’s race begins at 11 a.m., followed by the women’s race at 12:30 p.m.
